Pain Philosophy
For some reason I have been thinking very much about pain. Yes, just common pain, the one you feel when you are physically, mentally spiritually in love, and even the one you feel when you just put your finger on something hot.
During my philosophy on pain I realized how much it is necessary. In the beginning I thought, “gosh, why would someone create such a complex system of living things, nature, the planet, and also create pain? Why wouldn’t you just make something that would be perfect and would not require the use of pain so that they all could be happy?” Well I came up with a possible answer.
Pain is the strategy used to input limits on our acts. Bacteria, Viruses (although they are not considered living things by science) do not feel pain, but they also not conscious of they do, they are only moved by chemical reactions and instincts. We, on the other hand, know what we are doing, and still surpass our limits, hurting other people and killing for no logical reason… To control this, we have to suffer pain to shape our acts in a way that wont hurt us, and that will little by little model the way we should respond to the world. A good example is a kid that put their finger in a wall socket. After experiencing the uncomfortable shock, they will probably not give it a second try.
Stupid example: You will put your finger on a hot pan, and you will immediately feel pain. If there were no pain, you could probably melt off your finger without realizing. Pain basically keeps us safe.
Not so stupid example: If you are mentally normal, and you hurt someone, you will feel pain for the act you have done. This feeling of guilt (which here I consider moral pain) will keep you from killing someone. This is also putting limits to your acts.
If you stop to realize, our society is molded by pain, keeping us aware of where we can or cannot go. If you, for some reason lack pain either the physical way (pain receptors in your skin don’t work) or moral way (you do bad things and do not regret) you will be considered abnormal and probably have no limits.
My conclusion to all of this is that pain is fundamental for our existence, and in the try of making us perfect, God (or whatever his name is) had to create this element to teach us until where we can go. My guess is that one day, after evolving with pain, we are not dependent of it anymore, and can naturally keep our boundaries.
Uffaa that was long
